Wardenclyffe, 1901–1906
A laboratory designed by Stanford White and a transmitting tower roughly 57 metres tall, financed principally by J. P. Morgan, intended as the first node of a worldwide wireless system. Costs overran, Marconi transmitted across the Atlantic more cheaply, funding stopped, and the tower was demolished for scrap in 1917.
Colorado Springs, 1899–1900
Nine months of high-voltage work at 1,800 metres, producing discharges reported at over 30 metres and the day-by-day Colorado Springs Notes that high-voltage engineers still read.
